Mentorship

Mentors are instrumental in helping students find internships and employment, and provide opportunities to become leaders in the Jewish community.

Mentorship and professional development are at the heart of JHP’s mission—from its one-to-one mentoring program and New York mentoring retreats to guest speaker events, career panels, networking opportunities, and internship connections. The  mentoring program serves as a cornerstone of the JHP experience and exemplifies the organization’s commitment to fostering meaningful relationships between students and alumni.

JHP provides students with access to a powerful network of accomplished and influential professionals and peers, many of whom are JHP alum, fostering connections that help them navigate the business world, open doors to unique opportunities, advance their careers and support one another.

In addition, this year we implemented a new JBN online Member & Mentor Portal designed to strengthen connections across its growing professional network. The platform will serve as a dynamic resource where professionals can create detailed profiles, identify their industries and areas of expertise, indicate their interest in mentoring, and connect with others across the network.

The portal represents an exciting new resource not only for JBN members, but for JHP as a whole. By allowing professionals to identify themselves through searchable tags, the portal will make it significantly easier to identify the right mentors, speakers, and professional resources for students and young professionals across JHP’s programs.

The JHP Mentoring Retreat

Held once each semester in NYC, JHP alumni, community and business leaders volunteer their time to guide, instruct and mentor future generations. Mentors engage JHP students through internships, career shadowing opportunities, and informational retreats. Through mentoring sessions, they provide life and career advice, with particular insight in how to harmonize a successful career while celebrating one’s Jewish identity.

What Our Mentors Say

I’ve been involved with the work of Chabad and JHP at Penn for multiple decades. I’ve seen the program grow in terms of number of students served and in terms of impact. The Chabad programming – including weekly Shabbos and Yom Tov dinners, classes, and countless events hosted at Chabad House – provides and anchor and foundation for grounding Jewish students in their lives at Penn, offering a safe haven and stability in an unfortunately troubled world. I’ve personally witnessed the positive impact of this programming on so many Penn students. I’m honored to be a proud Chabad/JHP supporter.” – David Cohen

It was such a joy to spend the day mentoring incredible Penn JHP students during their fall retreat! From inspiring group sessions at Paul Weiss to deep conversations about careers and community, the energy and curiosity of these students were truly inspiring. We ended the day with a warm Shabbat dinner at my home—filled with laughter, connection, and meaning. As a JHP alum, it’s so special to give back to the community that shaped me.” – Zoya Raynes Friedman

What Our Students Say

“Through the JHP mentorship program, I was paired with JHP alum Steve Miller, a foreign exchange derivatives trader at JPMorgan Chase. Speaking on a number of different calls and video chats, Steve has been extremely helpful in providing me with insights and advice going into sophomore year, which is the major recruitment season into Wall Street. Separately, Steve has even taken an interest in my own investment research, asking me to keep him updated on what companies I’m looking at and my thoughts on them. I look forward to continuing to meet with Steve, and I’m thankful to JHP for providing me with a platform to connect with such great mentors.”

— Holden Leder, Class of 2028

“Our mentoring retreat to NYC was an incredible experience to learn from and connect with industry leaders from finance, healthcare, law, and entertainment. The retreat was a powerful reminder of the strength of the Jewish community, and JHP empowers us to connect and build strong relationships for our futures.”

— Gavin Sternberg, Class of 2029

“As a freshman, attending the mentoring retreat allowed me to get a head start on my career search. I enjoyed being able to hear from professionals at the top firms who came from similar backgrounds as me, and most of all appreciated being able to actually interact with them and learn from them face-to-face rather than solely listen. At the mentoring lunch, I met mentors from the exact fields I am interested in, and they were willing and excited to talk to me and answer my questions. I left with contacts whom I will follow up with and continue the relationships that the JHP mentoring retreat helped me build.”

— Andrew Kibel, Class of 2029

“The retreat in NYC was a great experience to be part of such a tight-knit, welcoming community. Being at Paul Weiss and JPMorgan and seeing people I look up to willing to support and help truly made me proud to be Jewish. It inspired me to someday give back in the same way they do. The Shabbat dinner meant a lot as well — it made the whole experience feel like family. Super grateful to be part of the JHP community.”

— Omer Barak, Class of 2028
