Shabbat for 1,000 / Shabbos Unlimited (at UPenn) is held once each semester. It not only reinforces students’ Jewish identities, but it also helps create more understanding and acknowledgement of the Jewish culture and traditions. JHP provides all the food and Shabbos guidance, and students (Jewish and non-Jewish alike) host Shabbat dinners across campus, in their apartments, Greek houses, or dorms. This event allows students to share a Shabbos dinner with friends all simultaneously at the same time, on the same night. We have had over 30,000 meals served since the event first began.
With the help of JHP, I was able to celebrate Shabbat for 1000 from Paris during my semester abroad. It was so nice to share our tradition with my roommates abroad and feel connected to the event on campus. No matter how far I am from school, I know I’ll always be a part of the JHP community.”

Shabbat for 1k was a night to remember. The weather was nice so we set up the table outside. We did all of the prayers and hung out until late, meeting new people. We enjoyed delicious Jewish foods such as Challah. I cannot wait for the next Shabbat for 1k!”

Shabbat Unlimited has been one of the most uplifting experiences I’ve had at Penn so far. Seeing so many people come together to celebrate Shabbat was incredibly meaningful. Even my friends who aren’t Jewish were eager to participate and learn about its traditions and values. I’m so grateful to JHP for making this happen!”
